The alarmingly telling line in Watson's post-Gillingham interview

Can this situation be retrieved?

I did not go to the Gillingham game, so I cannot talk about it.

However, it has to be asked whether anybody really needs to – the scoreline, the way in which Rochdale collapsed from being in the game at half time to being very much out of it by the hour mark and all of the reaction to it tell you everything you need to know.

Of course, I’ve dragged myself through the highlights – James Brophy’s goal is a superb one but Gills’ other three epitomise the kind of shambolic concessions that have become a theme of this season to date.

What I can talk about, however, is Ian Watson’s post-match interview – and why there’s a line in it that gives the impression that things are only heading one way for him.
